FAQS
Do I need a referral to book?
No. A referral is not required to book directly to see me privately, for NDIS-funded sessions, or for performance work. However, if you'd like to claim a Medicare rebate ($149.05 for eligible sessions), you'll need a Mental Health Care Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist.
Do you offer Medicare rebates?
Yes, for individual therapy sessions, if you hold a current Mental Health Care Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist. Ask your referrer whether you're eligible before your first session.
Can I claim through my private health fund?
Many private health funds offer a rebate for psychology sessions under extras cover. I hold provider numbers with the major funds, so check your policy for your specific benefit and any annual limits before booking.
Do you accept NDIS clients?
Yes, both plan-managed and self-managed NDIS participants.
Where are you located, and who can book with you?
Axis Applied Psychology is based on the Central Coast, NSW, and every session is delivered by telehealth, so I see clients anywhere in Australia.
What do I need for a telehealth session?
A private, quiet space and a stable internet connection is required. It's also worth having a backup phone number on hand in case the video connection drops partway through.
Is telehealth okay if I'm in crisis?
Telehealth isn't appropriate for an acute crisis. If you're at immediate risk, please contact emergency services on 000 rather than waiting for your appointment. See the crisis support numbers at the bottom of the page.
What happens before my first session?
During your booking process, fees, confidentiality, and what to expect will be outlined and you'll complete a short consent and intake form through the Halaxy portal.
Is what I say confidential?
What you share in sessions is kept confidential, with a few exceptions: where there's a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, where a child protection concern arises, where disclosure is required by a court, or where the law otherwise requires it.
What's your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations or no-shows with less than 24 hours' notice are charged at the full session fee.
Do you see children and adolescents, or only adults?
I work with adults, adolescents and children in my current face to face capacity, Axis is only taking bookings for individuals aged 15 years and older.
Can you prescribe medication?
No. As a Clinical Psychologist I don't prescribe medication. Where medication may be relevant, I'll discuss a referral to your GP or a psychiatrist alongside our work together.
